Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the incident made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
